"jdrgoat - Ponticrack?" (jdrgoat)

Upon rewatching, it really doesn’t look... “slow.” And watching again and again and again. I can’t figure out if it’s just because it’s only a wonderful old 85mph speedo. Apparently a 140hp V6 in a 2600-2700lb car zips ok. 4 speed manual, video was just in third gear, ended around 5000rpm.
I need help determining if this is quote unquote slow!?
...sorry for the portrait video.

It’s very decent... that’s 60 to 80mph in 5s maybe a bit less. That’s if the speedo is accurate. That’s NB Miata types of acceleration. To compare you can check here... So not fast, but not awful either...

(Not everything on this page is accurate... it’s mostly to give you an idea.)

Interesting, I’ve never seen a 60-80 list before. That gives me a good idea where I’m at!
I got sort of accustomed to my 400+ hp GTO, and that little V6 doesn’t have the same kick in the pants. But then the less weight makes it a little more unsuspecting speed.

Is that a Fiero? Everything around the speedo looks like my 85, but the speedo in my 85 looks quite different.

Yup, it’s a Fiero, it’s an 85 SE 2M6. Is yours a 2M4? The font/style was different between the 4cyl and 6cyl cars. (Also, not that it’s related to this video, the tach on the 6cyl cars was unique to the 85 with the V6, including GT. It has a traditional sweep like the 4cyl cars as opposed to the more common 86-88 tach with redline at the 12 o’clock position.)

Yeah, 2m4 auto. Really wish I had held out for a 4-speed, but it was my first car and I hadn’t learned stick yet.

If your local craigslist is anything like mine (I keep an eye on the market of cars I own... and I also want two Fieros now), there are probably affordable ones that pop up with surprising frequency. There’s a $600 86 with a 4cyl and 5 speed in my area right now. Best I can tell, it just needs cosmetic (paint, primarily) work. That way you could keep (almost) your first car around... Still a pretty unique first car, though! My first car was a stick... I hadn’t gotten it down at all by then myself. On the drive home with it, which was a lot of highway, I never used 3rd or 4th... just 1-2-5 on the on-ramp.
